Why does my system lock up every time I run 250 symbols live on 5 minutes bars. I have Windows XP Home and lots of memory on broadband.

If you can't determine why, we certainly cannot with the small amount of information you've provided. Is that 250 streaming charts? Are you doing a backtest? What's the data range? Are you running a script? If so, which one? Is it really locked up or are you not giving enough time for post-processing to complete? etc. etc.

Ok. A streaming 5 minute simple script BuyAtMarket. Backtested in the morning. Data updated. Starts fine on Strategy Monitor, then locks up after the next 5 minute update.

Strategy Monitor locks up - I can't recall the details at the moment, but that's definitely a bug in the current 5.1 client code that will be fixed in the next release 5.3 later this fall.

How long until the update so I can scan intraday bars?

I have the same problem, I try to update the data the night before it seems to help but it will still lock up if you have too many symbols running, I just thought I had too many apps open and not enough system mem.

As I recall now, it's not a function of the number of symbols, rather, it's an intermittent problem when multiple Strategies are scheduled to run at the same time.
