I have problem updating my chart: When I go to data manager > update data
I click update all data for selected provider now:

Below message appears in the data update log.

Updating Provider Fidelity Investments ...
Updating 10 Minute data ...

Updating 30 Minute data ...

Updating Daily data ...
Requesting updates for AA,AXP,BA,BAC,CAT,CSCO,CVX,DD,DIS,GE
Update completed (0.848 sec)
----------------

When I try to open AGQ new chart.
Error message pop up like this: Unable to connect to remote server, unable to get Data on Demand for symbol: AGQ

Same happened to other symbols

I have no problem updating my data previously. My last update was on 12/15/2010 and latest daily bar chart updated was until 12/14/2010.

Please help.

I've seen this problem intermittently too, but can't determine the conditions that cause it. The only things I can suggest to try are:

1. Log in to Fidelity and retry.

2. Restart and retry.

3. Try again tomorrow. This one will eventually work.

I tried to uninstall and re-install. It works.

That's a misconception. Uninstall and reinstall is never going to fix issues. Just a coincidence.

Never say never, but probably the uninstall accomplished the same as "2. Restart and retry." ;)

I have a similar problem. I am able to get data on demand, but the Update Dataset (Pricing) is returning no updates for some symbols. For example: CSD, DOG, DXD will not allow data downloads, but an ad-hoc chart with data on demand will show a historical chart. What's more confusing, is that when I try to pull up a chart by clicking on the same symbol within a DataSet, I will get a blank window stating "No Data Available."

If it's symbol-related, this sounds like a different problem. It could be that the symbol data files are corrupt, and in that case you can either delete them, or, right click their chart and select "Reload Chart History".

Is it possible that you requested the ad-hoc symbols in a Streaming chart and now are trying to request their static data with on-demand off? There are a few possibilities here, so all the details are important - Streaming, On-demand, symbol, scale, etc.

I have tried everything. I have deleted the data files. With on-demand ON, I am able to chart the entire daily history, but I am unable to use the Data Manager to update data for the same symbol within a DataSet. I also ensured that symbol management is turned off, just to be safe. I am starting to think it is a Fidelity issue.
The issue is specifically with ETF names. Here is a list of some. Try making a DataSet with them, and see if you can get history:
CSD
CVY
CWI
DBA
DBB
DBE
DBO
DBP

Symbol Management is a good thought, but it should be obvious if those symbols have been targeted. If you've been having a problem with those symbols, for sure there's a good chance they're there. To be even safer, you should try to "Restore" them.

I am totally at a loss as to why this is happening. Should I try to do a complete clean uninstall and reinstall? There must be something about the data that is corrupt. Either that, or something is happening when it requests data.

UPDATE:
I figured out what is causing this, and this is probably an unwanted feature...
Consecutive whitespace characters will cause symbols to be mangled. By creating a dataset like this:
IBM<SP><SP>AAPL
the Data manager will not interpret it as IBM,AAPL.

Thanks for that input. We'll put it on the bug list.

Actually, I can't duplicate that. I create a new Fidelity DataSet by entering symbols like this:

CODE:
Please log in to see this code.

But the symbols were all parsed and trimmed correctly as can be seen in the DSString from the DataSet's XML file:
<DSString>AAPL,BA,C,IBM,PVR,</DSString>

Please check your DSString for the DataSet that you're having trouble with and post it here.

system: Windows 8, WLP 6.6 64-bit

I am having this same problem everyday. I can't seem to duplicate it. It appears randomly at random symbols. Some symbols on which this error appeared: yelp, pcln, z, powi

The scales were 5 min and 30 min with 400 bars.

Is there a way to ignore this error without me having to press "OK" button to acknowledge it?

I assume this maybe Fidelity data problem, so I should contact them?

Try to follow Cone's suggestions in post #3. If nothing of that did work, and you've verified that your connectivity is above suspicion, this looks like a Fidelity data problem. Please report it directly into Fidelity phone support.
