If you have two-step verification in Google, you will get an error. You have to generate a Application Specific Password and input that password. How-To.


NOTE:

When article was already submitted to the magazine, Google has suddenly changed the rules used in ranking Google Trends, causing a difference in numbers and charts. However, since the old API remains accessible, we decided to leave everything as is until it breaks.

I am getting this error

Don't worry, it's not you - it's Google making breaking changes: most likely to its authentication routine.

Our Google Trends solution is broken due to a sudden internal change at Google. As no workaround is found so far I'm taking down the strategies. This is where it ends.

Good news: Google Trends has been partially restored!

The work around found is less precise as the data is only Monthly (Google typically returns Weekly data for Google Trends). But it does not require your Gmail account and password any longer! To make it work:

1. Update or install Community Components v2017.09 or newer. Restart WLP/D.
2. Download updated Google strategies from Wealth-Lab's "Open Strategy" dialog (click "Download").

Old strategies and your own works should function, too.

Bad news: Google Trends has broken again

The convenient Monthly source of Trends data at Google has been depreciated permanently. We're taking taking down the published Strategies again. Please don't ask for solution or ETA, thank you.
