I was testing paper auto trading this morning but it didn't work well due to the error on the order tool. I left the strategy kept running for two hours but the error persisted with every orders.

1: Could not get Quote for symbol: QLD
Once I restarted WLP and it worked fine.
Do you have any idea why it lept getting an error until I restart WLP?

My wild guess (because no one on this board will really know since Fidelity, the ones to call about data issues, doesn't participate here) is that it connected to a different server that was working instead of the one that wouldn't return the data.

Is there any way to let WLP to connect to a different server without restarting?

You're assuming that my guess is correct. I don't know that it is. But if it is, it would be a function of the "Fidelity Server" component, whose only U.I. is the "Log in" dialog.
That said, Version 5.4 gives the ability to "Log off". Logging off and back on should have the same effect of restarting with respect to streaming.

Sounds good. But could you also consider providing an option in which you get logoff automatically in case of server error and popup login dialog? Or maybe just popup a server error dialog?
The reason asking this is because currently the error message is given in the text in the Orders window and very difficult to handle it automatically (i.e. Auto-It). I would like to have a way to be able to handle this situation automatically.

"We" (MS123, a third party) can't consider those options at all for Fidelity authentication. Call Fidelity and talk to your rep.

I'm trying to run a paper trading strategy in real-time using fidelity's 1 minute feed. It is generating alerts and they are getting auto-placed correctly but not getting filled due to the error "Could not get quote for symbol:xxx" I would think if it was able to generate the alert at the right time that it must be getting the right quote. Is there a setting or something that I may be missing? Is this really a fidelity data feed issue?
Thanks

Is this for a particular symbol? Or maybe on some specific time of day?

Happens against FAS and FAZ. For FAZ it can't get data during random times during the day and for FAS typically when an alert is generated the order can't get filled due to the error mentioned above.

I have recently changed from WL Pro to WL Developer. I am paper trading. All buy or sell transactions went through fine in WL Pro. Now I cannot execute a buy through either the Orders tool or by the manual method. The order message reads: staged, then active, then error, "could not get quote for symbol AMGN". (I get the same response with other tickers as well)

What are the static and streaming data providers?

Yahoo and Wealth Lab

My understanding is that you're affected by bug #62779 'Paper Trading: Market orders fail at session open "Could not get Quote"'. When you place a market order before the market open, it errors out with "Could not get Quote" because the data is delayed (or the symbol doesn't have a quote at 9:30am like NYSE stocks may). Stop/Limit orders don't have this problem. The manual placement should work for Yahoo data and IQFeed (paid subscription) should not be affected as the data isn't delayed.

I just tried it again since it is past market open and I still get the same message. Through the orders tool as well as the manual ticket.

Cannot reproduce on AMGN using neither the Trade Ticket nor right-click trading. What streaming data provider have you selected in Preferences?

The only one I have there is Yahoo Finance

Still can't repro from the SM using Yahoo data, with both auto-place and staging. It's not the delayed feed thing and #62779 this can be discarded since the market is trading.
Looks like Wealth-Lab indeed "cannot get quote" because you're having an issue with getting data from Yahoo (as if the saved session cookie has expired, for example). Try to restart WLD to make it refresh the session cookie (and don't let it run for days without a restart).

I have restarted my computer and then opened WL. Each day when I open WL I then go through the authenticate process.

Are you seeing any error messages in the Data Update Log if you update your Yahoo DataSets now?
Size:
Color:
No errors in the log

So the reason is: Yahoo (or any matching streaming provider e.g. IQFeed) is not selected in the Preferences.
Not sure how it was possible to miss it but Wealth-Lab should have warned you with "Streaming provider not specified (please open Preferences/Streaming Data to configure)" message. Then if you attempt to stage orders they'll error out with "1: Could not get Quote for symbol: ..."
To fix, check Yahoo and click OK to apply.

OK...So...I went to tools, preferences, yahoo is checked. I unchecked it, then checked it, clicked apply then OK. Closed out WLD. Then restarted. Tried to place the order. Same message.

We're having trouble consistently reproducing it. On some machines it fails while on others it works. We'll keep you posted if we have an update.
