I'm familiar with SetScaleCompressed but it creates a scale relative to the actual chart scale and as such makes it harder to read (stepped). I'm referring to the "real" time scale, the same one accessed from the left-hand Scale menu. For example: how to change from 5-minute to 30-minute scale?

Seems like you already answer the question - use the Scale control in the left-hand menu. Click the down arrow and select "30 minute".

Note the subject - I am looking to set the scale in the _script_ - automatically.

If there existed such a method, it would already be documented in the QuickRef.

Why the need: is there any practical purpose?

If you want to run the script in different scales simultaneously, set up a Workspace with linked windows. See the "link icon" in the chart status bar. (User Guide: Charting > Chart Window)
