Import symbol info data into Symbol Info Manager

How can I import data from an external source to the Symbol Info Manager? For example, write a csv or xml-file which WL reads when starting up so that Symbol Info Manager reflects the information from an external source. Where and in what format does WL store the Symbol Info Manager information?

The file is called SymbolInfoManager.xml, for its location see the User Guide > Data > Where data are stored?
