Hi. I noticed that the strategies that I had on my PC are not showing up on my lap top. I currently do have control over both computers: I have my lap top with my, and I have accessed my PC via remote control.

How can i populate the missing strategies on my lap top? thanks.

The location of user's strategies depends on operating system and can be found in the User Guide > Data > Where data are stored?. You might want to enable hidden file/folder visibility in Windows (Folder options). Look for a subfolder called Strategies there. There they are, and in no other folder.

Also, on my lap top, i don't think I downloaded the Community. Components stuff. since i am using that namespace(?,) shouldn't I be downloading that onto my lap top? Sorry to say this, but I forgot how I did it before on my PC.... thanks.

Obviously, you should install extensions on each computer where you plan to use them in any way.

A simple method I use to move strategies to a second computer is simply to copy and paste. Copy the text of the code from the first computer and paste it into a clean code page on the second computer. Of course after pasting, I use the Save command.

How about manually copying the code for a hundred of strategies? Whew, that's a lot of work. And would you be OK about losing their preferred values, position sizing, data loading range, and more importantly Description in that transition? Pretty ineffective.

Copy and paste is only OK when you copy the actual XML files of your strategies via RDP/VNC connection (remote desktop software typically allows it) from the donor PC. Plus there are endless other possibilities: cloud storage (Dropbox etc.), emailing, FTPing, Google/Zoho Docs etc. - the point is to preserve all the metadata of a Strategy.

My method works great for me because I concentrate on only one or two strategies. Admittedly, I tinker with their settings to test various possibilities. When I find a setting that works, I copy and paste its text. It occurs only a couple of times a month.

I don't use any of the items (position sizing, etc.) Eugene warns about. I keep my stuff simple and the copy-and-paste method works for me, that's all I can say.

I can see how people who work with a big range of strategies with all that arcane stuff Eugene describes would want to use the method he advocates.
