Generally, when you create DataSets (Fidelity, Yahoo, Quandl, etc.), Wealth-Lab will not change them automatically. The Wealth-Data provider however, does support that feature if you create the DataSet from the classification group and select "Auto-update DataSet components".

For everyone else, if you want to update the components, here's the current list of S&P 500 stocks. Open the Data Manager (Ctrl+M), click on your S&P 500 DataSet, paste them over your current list, and click "Apply Symbol Changes made above to DataSet" at the bottom.

Important!
Make sure to edit the Class B shares for BF.B and BRK.B per your provider!

As in the Nasdaq 100 and other index lists, we choose to ignore other share classes and tracking stocks for companies already represented in the index.

S&P 500 components change frequently. After tomorrow's 30 November close, MXIM and FANG will replace AET and SRCL.

I can get that to work with the S&P500 index when using Yahoo as the data feed provider. But if I try to use Fidelity as the provider, I can't seem to find any of the stock indexes as classification groups. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

UPDATE: Now reading the quote again, I see they are saying to use the Wealth-Data provider and not the Fidelity provider. I'm guessing the Wealth-Data provider is a separate extension that needs to be downloaded and installed. It doesn't appear to be installed by default.

That's right. Here it is:

Wealth-Data Static and Fundamental

And to use it you have to register at wealth-data.com, then copy/paste your username and password from that site (Data Manager > Wealth-Data tab).

A little off topic, but https://www.barchart.com/stocks/indices/sp/sp500 allows you to copy (and download if you create a log in) the components of all the major U.S. indicies. They claim to update their component lists monthly. I've noticed a couple of discrepancies, but it's very close and FREE!

I don't always post changes to the indices in the forum, but our Wealth-Data provider has the Dow 30, S&P 100, 500, and Nasdaq 100 up-to-date within 1 day. The only caveat is that Wealth-Data doesn't include all the tracking stocks the indices (e.g. GOOG and GOOGL) so as to eliminate trading virtually 100% correlations for stocks from the same company. There are several other advantages to using Wealth-Data.. see the FAQ at https://www.wealth-data.com.

Additionally, we update these lists and many, many more for the Yahoo! Provider Classifications file every one to two weeks. Just create a new Yahoo! DataSet, Select from Classification Groups, and click the "Refresh Classifications" to get the latest lists.

While we're here, two other changes occurred for the S&P 500 since my last post above. Taken from Wealth-Data...

OUT: SCG (now delisted as SCG.20181231.A. "A" indicates that that company was Acquired or merged with another)
