Just noticed that there is an upgrade to 5.5. Do we need to do a complete uninstall and then download the full 5.5 package?

If you're upgrading from Developer 5.1, then you'll be prompted to uninstall first. No need to uninstall if upgrading from Developer 5.4.

In any case, uninstalling will never affect your user data, so you can always uninstall and reinstall without any problem.
