I was in the process of creating a Yahoo data set and WLD crash. At the time, I have a dataset XML file from WLP folder open in the background (so I can copy over the symbols). Not sure if this related to the crash. I try to remove all files from WLD installation folder and run program repair on WLD and have it re-install. This still does not work, as WLD power up, it crash within 1 minute.

Next uninstall WLD, cycle power then reinstall WLD but it still crash shortly after turn on. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I perform an another uninstallation of WLD and remove all its related keys from registry, cycle power, and do a clean install of WLD. As it start-up there is a message that says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" (please see attachment). If I click Continue, WLD will start up fine. However after install AlphaVantage data provider extension and restart WLD, it would crash shortly after start-up. If I delete the AlphaVantage dll from the MS123 folder, WLD would start up fine.

1 - Most likely you removed (or overwrote with its WLP counterpart) some key DLL in the installation folder when making a build in Visual Studio. In this case you should choose "Repair installation" in Windows Control Panel.

2 - Not enough details to tell what's going wrong. Please click "Details" and copy/paste the exception message here.

The earlier crash due to mixing between WLP and WLD dlls are resolved. All the actions/events that leads to these crashes do not involve VS. It seems got to do with the AlphaVantage dll. Please see the detail of the exception below. Thanks.

I would like to make a correction the last statement on post #2. If AlphaVantage extension install, WLD will crash shortly right after start-up. However if the AlphaVantage dll is removed from MS123 folder, WLD would start-up (NO crash) but with the exception message in post #4.

The exception message in #4 is a startup error message not related to AlphaVantage. Its cause is the Migrator tool not copying WealthLab.ChartStyles.Community.dll over to the WLD installation folder. Some ChartStyle from that library is used by your Default workspace. You can learn about it from the KB article on Errors | Strategy > Object reference not set to an instance of an object:

* "A less likely cause of this message if it happens on startup is when default workspace uses a ChartStyle that is not installed."

So, reinstall the extension or delete your Default.ws as suggested HERE. Sorry for the trouble, we'll fix the Migrator.

Three absolutely unrelated errors and crashes is way too much for one topic. One is caused by incorrectly setting up your Visual Studio project's References, another is a bug in the Migrator tool, and for the 3rd (AlphaVantage) please use a different topic.

It seems the crash is due to residual data sets left over from previous WLD installation. With the new WLD installation start fresh, it doesn't have recollection of these datasets, hence the crash. When I remove these data sets from the AppData folder, WLD start-up fine. Thanks.
