This means "Input string was not in a correct format" translated to English. Basically, Yahoo! provider cannot recognize the date. The odd thing is that all symbols are valid and there isn't a clear pattern to it. Let's collect some info for troubleshooting:

1. How are you updating the data: 1) via Update DataSet or 2) Update All Data?

2. How many symbols are being updated i.e. 1) number of symbols in the DataSet or 2) number of total Yahoo symbols being updated at once?

3. What regional settings does the laptop have i.e. how Windows is configured?

Based on your answers I should be able to provide suggestions. Currently, it looks like Yahoo errors out for you because of server configuration which protects it from abusing the free service.

Not exactly. Please see the FAQ: How to transfer Strategies and other data between computers?

And since you're apparently updating the data on the laptop from scratch (i.e. backfilling historical data), I recommend you import the data files as instructed - along with DataSets and Strategies. This way you're avoiding Yahoo's glitches caused by the massive download of data.

Once done with this,

1. Reduce the number of tickers in your Yahoo DataSets. There should not be thousands!
2. Try to update them DataSet by DataSet. Make a pause.

Hi Masa,

The issue you're having looks like a temporary glitch at Yahoo's side. That's the price to pay when using the free data feeds. Yesterday I thought you were being "forced" by Yahoo to minimize the number of data update requests, but this simultaneous post from a user in the other part of the world made connect the dots:

"Input string was not in a correct format" with Gap Filler screener in Strategy Monitor

So, advice #3 is: retry at a different time. If needed for trading, explore alternatives of which there's no shortage:

* Map of Wealth-Lab Data Providers
* Download Extensions

IQFeed (subscription based) is recommended for trading U.S. stocks with high availability.

hi eugene,

thx for your suggestions.

This means "Input string was not in a correct format" translated to English - thanks

I imported data files from the hidden files - this is what I meant when I said I did it manually. I thought the app would recognize the data automatically.

The point is that my problems stard only when I installed Wealth-Lab on my new computer. Never before. All the same if i Update Dataset or Update all Data.

I tried now with Update DataSet - i got the same error message - input string was not in a correct format :-(((((((((((

these are my regional settings - enclosed png file

Noted. Apparently, regional settings are not in play here. After your post another user from the U.S. reported similar issue with U.S. settings.

Sorry, I have little idea what you think the application should do. Likewise, how you did the transfer and which files were and were not included - and it can matter. If by "automatically" you mean that data should appear on the new PC then yes, that's how it always works if you transfer the file and folder structure correctly.

If Yahoo update works on the old PC right now and fails on the new PC simultaneously, then you have to find out the difference between the two PCs. I'll give you some pointers for your troubleshooting:

1. Regional settings I discarded it but still will ask: do regional settings on the desktop PC differ from those on your Surface Pro?
2. Network settings (shared or different connection). Can you retry from a different connection e.g. VPN?
3. Have you got WealthLabConfig.txt copied over to the new PC?

Well, obviously I can't check this, since I can't run Wealth-Lab on both computers simultaneously.

I am using the same network for both computers right now.

no. where/how should I do this?

You said you copied something (I'm not sure if these are the right files as you didn't mention what you've copied) from the hidden folder (no idea if that's the right folder as there are many hidden folders) to someplace (again, no confidence about picking the correct destination). There's a good chance something got corrupt during file transfer. One last thing for you to try is to start fresh.

1. The correct folder is:

C:\Users\Windows User Name\AppData\Roaming\Fidelity Investments\WealthLabDev\1.0.0.0\Data\

2. With WLD closed, rename the hidden Data folder under AppData. This resets WLD: no cached data or strategies whatsoever.

3. Start WLD and open a chart of a Dow 30 symbol. Since on demand data update is active by default, in seconds you should see the instrument's chart. Does it work now?

4. Update of the Dow 30 DataSet. Any errors in the new log (copy/paste here if any)?
